Program Manager at W.K. Kellogg Foundation

I am currently a Program Manager at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation supporting our New Orleans, Louisiana portfolio. We work with community partners to address issues in health, education, and economic security.  Specifically in my role, I coordinate our grantmaking activities, which include identifying and vetting new projects, monitoring grant progress, and servings as a liaison amongst community partners and stakeholders.

What is the most rewarding and the most challenging part of your job?

The most rewarding aspect of my job is working with and learning from so many talented, thoughtful and passionate colleagues and partners that have dedicated themselves to improving the lives of vulnerable children and communities. However, when I look at outcomes for children and families of color, I'm often kept up at night by the growing disparities.

Which of your skills had the biggest impact on your success?

Much of my success is predicated on the relationships and good rapport I have established with colleagues and community partners. Building and maintaining relationships is a critical leadership skill and essential to effectively navigating the workforce.

What advice do you have for students looking for their career after college?

As you navigate your career you’ll hear “No” more than “Yes”. But every No makes room for the perfect Yes. The right opportunity can catalyze your career and leadership trajectory. Stay consistent, disciplined and prepared.
