Bio:

Mexican bassoonist Carlos M. L贸pez began his musical career at age six on the piano before discovering his passion for the bassoon at age 18. He began his studies at the School of Music of the National Autonomous University of Mexico before obtaining degrees from The Joyce and Henry Schwob School of Music and the University of Iowa, where he has been the teaching assistant for the bassoon studio. Currently, he is a Doctor of Musical Arts Candidate at the University of Iowa with a research focus in bassoon music of the Americas. Carlos鈥檚 primary teachers include Benjamin Coelho, Dr. Stephanie Patterson, Dr. Ronald Wirt, Nylsa 脕valos, and Manuel Hern谩ndez.

Carlos has won prizes in numerous solo and chamber music competitions across Mexico and the United States. He served as second bassoon of the Lagrange Symphony Orchestra (Ga.) and has performed with the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony, Columbus Symphony Orchestra (Ga.), Columbus Ballet Orchestra (Ga.) in the United States and UNAM Philharmonic and IPN Symphony in Mexico City. In August 2023, Carlos was appointed as the new Instructor of Bassoon at the University of Wisconsin鈥揚latteville. Carlos also keeps a very active agenda with performances and masterclasses across the Unites States and Mexico.
