Competitions
As a student, you have two opportunities to test your skills against students from other colleges and universities as part of IT Forum this year. The Department of Business Information Systems is hosting competitions in both business analytics and business communication. Participate in one or both!
Business Analytics Case Competition
You will delve into the critical intersections of business analytics and AI.
The competition kicks off with the distribution of a data set and question set aligned with the conference theme. Teams will analyze data, using their business acumen and analytical tools to uncover insights. Teams will then compile their findings into a detailed report, which expert judges will review.
The top teams will be invited to present their analysis in person at the IT Forum Conference on Nov. 8, 2024. Presentations will be judged on methodology, findings, visualization and overall quality, with the best teams earning recognition for their innovative solutions. Submit your team by Sept. 22. There are prizes for first, second and third place teams.
Teams
- Teams must consist of a minimum of two and a maximum of four undergraduate students of any major.
- During registration, each team must designate one member as the team coordinator. This student will be the point of contact for all communication with the competition organizers, including receiving important documents and submitting reports.
- Teams are required to choose a unique team name as part of the registration process.
- Detailed competition information, including timeline, instructions and data sets will be sent via email to all registered teams.
Business Communication Case Competition
Open to all undergraduate students, the competition asks you to create a video between one to five minutes long that focuses on one overall theme or message related to communication, education or preparation for an IT-related business field (including but not limited to cybersecurity, AI, health care or business analytics).
A panel of professionals will vote on which videos are most successful, and the top videos will be shown at the IT Forum Conference on Nov. 8, 2024. The students whose videos will be shown at the conference are invited to speak about their process, network with professionals and students, and enjoy the conference sessions. There are prizes for first, second and third place teams.
Submission instructions
Videos can be created with phones, cameras, or other technology, including laptop webcams. The end product must be an unlisted YouTube link. Each team must submit their video entry by the end of the day Sept. 30.
Teams
- The more diverse the team, the better. Consider inclusivity in terms of all identities, as well as varied majors, colleges and universities.
- Teams can be between two to 10 individuals.
